Each medal fitted with silver buckle as worn, contact marks, very fine .

James Button was born at Swainswick near Bath, Somerset in 1825 and was a baker by trade upon his enlistment at Bath on 12 January 1845. Prior to his campaign service, Button had been on duty in Ireland, Barbados, Halifax, Portsmouth and Manchester.
Sailing for the the Crimea from Manchester via Scutari in April 1854, he was promoted Corporal on 7 November 1854. Button was imprisoned from 14-18 January 1856 and was reduced to Private. He returned to Aldershot in June 1856 and having served for some 12 years and 40 days was discharged at Aldershot on the 26 February 1857 with the payment of £10.0.0d. He was discharged with a letter of recommendation from Lieutenant Charles H. Malan (the original accompanies the Lot):
'Lance-Corporal James Button now about to be discharged from the 7th Royal Fusiliers, served with his corps for about twelve years and six months during which time he has always borne a good character; he was distinguished for his zeal & cheerfulness in the discharge of his duty; for his extreme cleanliness, and for his general steadiness and sobriety, he was present with the regiment during the whole of the Crimean campaign (in the Light Division and wears the medal and clasps for Alma, Inkermann, & Sebastopol, and received the medal "for Distinguished Service in the field" for conspicuous gallantry at Inkermann & I have great pleasure in giving him this recommendation with the sincere hope that it may be of service to him.'
Sold together with a daguerreotype of the recipient in uniform, wearing two medals, Account Book, Parchment Certificate, letters of reference from Captain Joshua Cooper and Colonel Troubridge of 20 Eaton Square, London, a letter from Mr R. Pownall relating to the forwarding of his Discharge Certificate.
