Henry Albert Bailey: Was born in the Parish of Addelstone in the County of Surrey and joined the 1st Battalion of the Royal West Kent Regiment at Shorncliffe on July 21, 1892 at the age of 15 years 1 month. Describing his trade as a tailor, he was 4 feet 10 1⁄2 inches tall, weighing 92 lbs with a fresh complexion, brown eyes and brown hair.
He was appointed a drummer on April 3, 1894 and reverted to the rank of Private on December 1, 1902. He spent the period July 21, 1892 to December 15, 1892 at home and December 16, 1892 to March 10, 1902 in India. The remaining period was spent on home service for a total of 12 years.
He earned his 3rd class certificate of education at Meerut on October 30, 1894. He records note he was awarded the India Medal 1895 with clasp for the Punjab Frontier.
He was discharged on the termination of his first period of engagement on July 20, 1904. His next of kin was noted as his father, George Bailey, No. 4 The Gables, Liberty Lane, Addlestone (over an earlier notation of No Company Army Service Corps).
