Nathaniel Frazer was born in 1803 at Plymouth, Devon. Enlisting in the Royal Navy he served aboard H.M.S. Revenge as a Landsman. Advanced Ordinary Seaman aboard this ship 1 February 1834 and Able Seaman 17 September 1835. Joining Edinburgh on 20 September 1837 he was present aboard this ship during the operations off the coast of Syria from 10 September 1840, earning the Syria Clasp until the surrender of Acre on 4 November 1840. Later seeing further service in the blockade of Egyptian ports during September to December 1840.

Appointed Captain of the Fore Top with H.M.S. Malabar on 22 October 1841 however he had returned to the rank of Able Seaman by 11 January 1852 when he joined St. George for operation in the Baltic. Posted next to Arrow Frazer saw service with her in the Sea of Azoff from 25 May 1855-9 September 1855. Transferred to the crew of Hannibal on 14 November 1854 he appears to have been 'lent' to HMS Arrow, as the Medal roll records 'HMS Arrow discharged to Hannibal'.

Promoted Leading Seaman with this vessel on 12 March 1856 he reverted to Able Seaman on 23 May 1859 and was discharged ashore on 30 November 1861. Frazer appears in the 1871 census living at 3 Richmond Lane North, St Andrew, Plymouth with his sister and her family, a Greenwich pensioner blind in one eye. He died in Plymouth in 1876 aged 73 years.
