W. Price when French departed in haste to relieve Kimberley on 11 February 1900, the 9th Lancers formed a part of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade taking part in the charge against the Boers at Klip Drift on 15 February 1900. Price was doubtless present, he is noted as being wounded the next day and invalided from service as a result.
